12 of 12: A day in August 2023

It’s the 12th of August. A great day to document the day with 12 photos, as my son and I will start our 6-day sailing trip on the Dutch IJsselmeer.

1/12: I wake up at 6:30 in our Bed & Breakfast room, in Enkhuizen in the Netherlands. I am on vacation with my son and I am glad he can sleep in, as I expect our upcoming days to be less lazy.
2/12: I let my son watch TV while I fill out the survey for my panel discussion in September, about the advantages and disadvantages of being an self-employed or employee.
3/12: By noon, we leave our B&B and we walk to our ship, a traditional Dutch flat bottom ship that is designed to lie on the bottom at low tide. In the past, these were used as cargo ships. We will spend the next days with other families on the ship.
4/12: After a brief introduction of all crew members and a joint supermarket shopping, Petty Officer Nente gives us instructions on how to set the sails.
5/12: Before we leave the harbour, I quickly enjoy a last glimpse of the beautiful city of Enkhuizen.
6/12: On the ship, the kids instantly connect with each other.
7/12: Setting the mainsail. It’s the first time I am on such a big sailing ship. It takes several people to make it work.
8/12: Everyone can help.
9/12: Love the view of the full sails and the feeling when the ship is driven by the wind.
10/12: I am hungry. I help travel guide Gaby with the preparation of the dinner.
11/12: These were Spaghettis with a creamy salmon-carrot sauce – yummy 😋!
12/12: After dinner, the adults clean and the kids play catch on land. Around 10:00 pm my son comes back and says: “Now we go to sleep!”

Am sure it will be a one to be remembered. Enjoy the rest of it, too.
