12 of 12: A day in January 2023

It’s the 12th of January. It’s time for “12 of 12” – documenting the 12th of a month with 12 photos. I haven’t done it since August last year. I didn’t have the energy. Today I challenge myself to do it again 😆. It’s a normal busy workday though. Nothing special. Or is it?

1/12: The alarm clock sounds at 7 o’clock. I stay another hour in bed – it’s so cosy and warm. That’s my morning routine. Still in bed, I check social media and am reminded by Judith’s post that today is time for “12 of 12”.
2/12: Then I update the content of the website of the Frankfurt Support Group for Family Members of Individuals Living with Mental Illness. I am their voluntary webmaster.
3/12: Then I check how to synchronise a Mastodon and Twitter account for my employer, the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics.
4/12: Before I finally get up, I turn on some music from Kurt Schneider. He covers pop songs – the simple melodies and the lyrics on Spotify make it easy for me to sing along. I have decided to sing more in 2023 😄.
5/12: Every morning I drink a hot Thai milk tea to warm up my stomach. As I want to avoid tea bag waste, I use loose tea with a metal sieve. The huge glass is a traditional wine spritzer glass from Pfalz, a wine region in Western Germany near the French border. It was gift from the JCI Team Leadership Academy.
6/12: Because it’s already late, I fill the tea into a thermos cup and rush to the metro station to wait for the metro that takes me to my workplace.
7/12: I buy a ticket with the app and enter the ticket price into my expenses tracking app. I have started to track my expenses in detail since the beginning of the year.
8/12: It’s a beautiful rainy day ❤️! We don’t have enough rain. And it hurts me every time when people say it’s bad weather!
9/12: At the Institute, we have a Highschool student group visiting us. I take some nice pictures for our outreach webpage. It’s also a great opportunity to learn about the work of the scientists of our Institute. I love the way Bernhard explains the work with the Drosophila flies.
10/12: I have a quick lunch at the canteen of the Max Planck Institute of Brain Research next door. The proportions are enough for two meals, that’s why I bring an empty jar for the leftovers.
11/12: As always, I am absorbed by my work and forget to take more photos. It’s dark already when I take the metro back home.
12/12: At home, I make the “difficult”decision not to go to the JCI Vienna Waltz Gala and instead register for the Annual Reception of the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce and Industry. With a bit more clarity, and after watching some sailing and dance videos on Instagram, I finally go to bed 😂.

Do you like this format? Try it out yourself! You will be surprised how much a single day will tell you about your situation, your habits and values 😁!
